Crying Shame!

A few weeks ago, I was watching CNN’s live coverage of a traffic accident on I-95 that was really holding up traffic as debris was all over the  road.  The accident involved a truck carrying a load of onions that flipped over after being hit in the rear by a truck carrying steaks.  Fortunately no one was hurt, and clean up crews were trying to clear the onions off the road so that they could re-open the highway.

The first thing that came to mind was that it was a “crying shame”, which I said aloud to my wife and we started laughing.  I then thought about the symbolism of what I was seeing.  How many times in the past have we   experienced a negative emotion, and then we recall that experience as if it is happening again and again in our minds until we start feeling bad again.

That would be like thinking about this truck accident which is now already in the past and then crying because the onion juice is burning your eyes.  Having tears three years later and crying again because the onions are causing you to tear up, does not make any sense does it?

Always remember to leave your “onions” in the past.  Our lives will all be much happier when we drive down the freeway of life looking forward to what is coming for us, rather than looking in the rear view mirror and feeling horrible for all those onions behind us on the road.
